Mary Gilkerson (b. 1958) has a prominent presence on the art scene of the South Carolina Midlands as an artist, critic and curator. She teaches art at Columbia College in her hometown of Columbia, S.C. In the past two decades, she has kept up a steady exhibition pace throughout the state and beyond. She has received a grant from the S.C. Arts Commission and twice won top honors in the Florence (S.C.) Museum of Art annual juried art exhibition. Gilkerson holds BFA, MA and MFA degrees from the University of South Carolina. She's an art reviewer for Columbia's weekly Free Times.

LAURA SPONG GOES HOLLYWOOD in Lifetime's DROP DEAD DIVA


if ART Gallery artist Laura Spong is part of the Lifetime cable network's new series Drop Dead Diva, but she's feeling fine, thank you very much. Spong's paintings are on view prominently on the show, for instance in the law offices where the series' main character works. The show's producers have rented several paintings by Spong for the series' sets.

To see five paintings by Spong in 30 seconds, click here, which will take you to the show's second episode, called The F-Word. Five of Spong's paintings appear early, between 1' 50" and 2' 20" into the show. At exactly eight minutes into the program, another one of Spong's paintings shows up. At 25' 43'' and at 30 minutes, there are other direct views of three Spong paintings. In total, at least eight Spong paintings grace the walls of the show's law office, where much of the action takes place. The paintings appear in full view throughout each episode of the program.

Drop Dead Diva airs Sundays at 9pm and Mondays at 8pm on the Lifetime channel.

Joan Mitchell Lithos Fetch Considerably More At New York Auction Than Their Price @ if ART Gallery



Four lithographs by one of the most prominent American Abstract Expressionists, Joan Mitchell (1926–1992), on June 2 sold at New York's Phillips de Pury & Company auction house for considerably more than what they cost at if ART Gallery in Columbia, S.C. Three lithos from Mitchell's 1991 Arbres series fetched $6,875 as a set, unframed. if ART Gallery sells two of those lithos for $1,700 each, framed. Two lithos from Mitchell's 1991 Champs series fetched $2,750 and $2,125 respectively, framed. At if ART, those two lithos also sell for $1,700 each, framed.
