Columbia’s
if ART Gallery presents on Saturday, September 17, 2016, 8:30 p.m., a solo
concert of trumpet investigations by renowned jazz and improv trumpet player
Jacob Wick.
Admission is $10; concert,
at 8:30; doors open at 7:30.
Wick’s solo concert at if
ART Gallery is part of his tour of the eastern United States in support and
celebration of the August release of his record Two Loves On Marginal Frequency. Wick’s solo sets focus on
slowly-shifting, static textures that test the fragility of his body.
Jacob Wick is a trumpet player and improviser.
Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Wick has lived in Brooklyn, NY, Oakland,
Cal., and Los Angeles. He has performed with a variety of improvisers and
composers in different contexts, including at New York’s Whitney Museum of
American Art, the Moers Jazz Festival in Germany, and el Museo Universitario
Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico.
Wick’s approach is indebted to a wild commitment to
queer politics and years of cruising contemporary and 20th century art and/or
life theories. Current projects include an often-shifting solo trumpet
performance, slowly building listening and/or visualization exercises. He also
performs with Do...s/Tres Hongos with Marc Riordan and Frank Rosaly. Wick has
released recordings on Creative Sources, Prom Night Records, Relay Records, and
Marginal Frequency (August 2016).
